Manual Install of a Steam Game as a Download

To manually install a Steam game as a download, follow the instructions below:

A:  Temporarily disable your anti-virus and security software:

  1. Under the Start/Window menu select ‘Run’ or click in the search field.
  2. Type “msconifg” and press enter or select "msconfig" fromt he results.
  3. Select the ‘Services’ tab.
  4. Uncheck anything related to your system protection/anti-virus.
  5. Select the ‘Startup’ tab.
  6. Uncheck anything related to your system protection/anti-virus.
  7. Restart your computer.

B:  Download and Install the Game:

  1. If you have a Steam account, launch the Steam client and log in.  If not, download the Steam client and create a Steam account, taking note of the email and log-in credentials you use.
  2. In the Steam client, go to the Library tab.
  3. If you have not authenticated the game to your account, click "Add Game" from the bottom right of the client window and select "Authenticate a game on Steam".  Follow the instructions and enter your activation code when prompted and then allow it to download and install the game.
  4. If the game is already authenticated, then locate it under you games list, right-click it and select "Install Game..."
  5. Allow Steam to download and install any game updates, patches or DLC.

C:  Reinable your anti-virus and security software:

  1. Under the Start/Window menu select ‘Run’ or click in the search field.
  2. Type “msconifg” and press enter or select "msconfig" fromt he results.
  3. Select the ‘Services’ tab.
  4. Recheck your system protection/anti-virus options.
  5. Select the ‘Startup’ tab.
  6. Recheck your system protection/anti-virus.
  7. Restart your computer.
